Mass Shooting Suspect Charged in Detroit Dope House Incident, Faces Multiple Charges

Detroit, Michigan – A Macomb County man faces charges in connection with a two-year-old mass shooting at an alleged drug house in Detroit, resulting in three deaths and two injuries. Jony Saad Alatto, 32, from Macomb Township, was arraigned in 36th District Court and held in custody. Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office stated that Alatto allegedly shot the victims before robbing the house occupants and fleeing.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy commended the Detroit Police Department and Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for their dedicated work in solving the case. Alatto faces charges including felony murder, assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm. The victims were identified as John Coffie Jr., 76, Alphonso Henry, 55, and Morriss Campbell Jr., 41, with two women also injured.

The shooting took place in August 2022 at a residence in Detroit, where five victims were found with gunshot wounds in a known narcotics location. Campbell was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Henry and Coffie succumbed to their injuries later. Alatto is scheduled for a hearing on June 7 for a probable cause conference and a preliminary exam on June 14.

Records from the Michigan Department of Corrections show that Alatto had previous convictions for home invasion, assault, and attempted safe breaking. The case highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence in Detroit and the efforts of law enforcement to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
