MBTA Station Stabbing: South Boston Man Held Without Bail for Violent Attack

Boston, Massachusetts – A South Boston man with an extensive criminal record is being held without bail for his alleged involvement in a violent attack at an MBTA station on June 4. Thomas Digaetano, 42, faces charges of assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, drawing attention to his 22-page criminal history with various open cases in South Boston, including charges of assault and battery, strangulation, and kidnapping.

According to Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden, Digaetano was spotted engaged in a physical altercation near the Ellery Street entrance of the Andrew Station T stop around 4:15 p.m. on the day of the incident. He reportedly fled towards Southampton Street before being apprehended by police.

The victim, a 41-year-old male, sustained multiple lacerations to his head and abdomen during the attack and was rushed to Boston Medical Center for treatment. Authorities are investigating the relationship between Digaetano and the victim, as it remains unclear if they were acquainted prior to the incident.

Surveillance footage from the scene allegedly shows Digaetano wielding a knife against the victim, with a second suspect appearing to kick and punch the victim while he was on the ground. The second suspect, described as wearing a black T-shirt, tan shorts, and a black backpack, is currently at large.

Expressing outrage over the incident, DA Hayden emphasized that such acts of violence at a bustling transit station are unacceptable and jeopardize the safety and well-being of public transportation users. Digaetano is scheduled to appear in court for a dangerousness hearing on June 11, while authorities urge anyone with information on the second suspect or the stabbing to contact Boston Police.

As the investigation unfolds, more updates and details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the brutal attack at the MBTA station. Readers are encouraged to stay informed as new information becomes available regarding this ongoing case.
