Melbourne, Australia — A violent home invasion in Gladstone Park has led to the arrest of four individuals, including three teenagers, following an early morning attack that left a 60-year-old man seriously injured. The incident took place on July 24 when a group allegedly armed with firearms and knives forced their way into a residence on Trentham Drive.
The assault began when Kemal Akbulut confronted the intruders, resulting in a brutal attack in which he was shot, stabbed, and beaten with a hammer. His cousin, Birsel Akbulut, 57, was also threatened during the invasion. The attackers quickly fled the scene in a white SUV, prompting a swift investigation by local authorities.
On Wednesday, police apprehended a 17-year-old male in Bundaberg, Queensland, who is now facing extradition to Victoria. This arrest followed multiple search warrants executed across several locations, including homes in Bundaberg and various suburbs in Melbourne, where law enforcement took a 16-year-old from Meadow Heights, a 21-year-old from Tarneit, and an 18-year-old also from Tarneit into custody.
CCTV footage from the scene has surfaced, capturing the harrowing moments during the home invasion. The audio reveals terrifying threats made by one of the suspects as he demanded to know the whereabouts of money, while another suspect brandished a gun, illuminating the victims’ faces with a phone flashlight. Birsel Akbulut later stated that the attackers were specifically searching for her daughter’s boyfriend, a figure connected to the underworld.
Detective Inspector Adam Tilley described the case as particularly alarming, noting that the evidence suggests the invasion was premeditated. He expressed the department’s commitment to addressing community concerns over gun violence and to holding those responsible for such acts accountable.
The assault not only left Kemal Akbulut with serious injuries but also inflicted significant emotional trauma on both victims. The police are prioritizing the investigation to ensure that the individuals involved face justice.
As the investigation continues, authorities are reinforcing their commitment to combating violence in the community and removing illegal firearms from circulation. The alarming nature of this incident has sharpened the focus on safety and law enforcement in Melbourne’s neighborhoods.
