The first shooting occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. on the 2700 block of North Orkney Street in the Fairhill neighborhood. A man in his 50s was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital around 4 p.m. Surveillance footage is under review, revealing a physical altercation involving the victim prior to the shooting.
Police Inspector D.F. Pace indicated it remains unclear whether the assailant was one of the individuals engaged in the fight or a separate party altogether. In a separate incident later that evening, two elderly neighbors became embroiled in a confrontation on the 3300 block of North Park Street around 7:30 p.m. A 74-year-old man allegedly fired a weapon during the dispute, critically injuring a 66-year-old neighbor with a gunshot wound to the head.
Witness Xazanay McQuay described the incident, noting that what began as an ordinary day quickly turned violent. “I never heard any yelling or screaming; I just heard the loud noise,” McQuay recounted, emphasizing the suddenness of the violence.
Law enforcement arrived shortly after the shooting, securing the scene and discovering multiple shell casings, as well as a bullet hole in a nearby window. The elderly shooter has been taken into custody, while the victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
