Half Moon Bay, California – Nearly one year after a tragic shooting that claimed the lives of seven people and left another injured, the community of Half Moon Bay gathered together on Sunday to honor the victims and reflect on the devastating event.
The remembrance ceremony, which took place at the Boys and Girls Club Event Center, began at 4 p.m. and featured a walking procession to Mac Dutra Plaza, followed by a moment of silence. The community showed an outpouring of support with hundreds of people expected to attend the event.
It has been almost a year since Chunli Zhao, the gunman, targeted his former co-workers at two different locations, resulting in a total of seven deaths and one person being airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Zhao was later taken into custody by a sheriff’s deputy after parking near a sheriff’s substation.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Zhao reportedly admitted to the murders in a jailhouse interview with a local news outlet and expressed remorse for his actions. He has since pleaded not guilty to all charges in court.
The devastating impact of the shooting has left the Half Moon Bay community reeling, as families, friends, and co-workers continue to mourn their profound loss. The anniversary of the tragic event serves as a moment for the community to come together and support one another during this difficult time.
