Los Angeles, California – Thirteen members or associates of the Mexican Mafia prison gang have been charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for their involvement in a narcotic smuggling operation and violent assault within the Los Angeles County jail system. Among them, two individuals are currently fugitives, while two others were recently apprehended.
The arrests were made in connection to reports of narcotics being smuggled into the Los Angeles County Jail and a violent attack on an inmate. It is alleged that high-ranking associates of the Mexican Mafia orchestrated the smuggling operation and assault from outside the jail, under the direction of a member of the Mexican Mafia who is currently incarcerated.
During the investigation, it was revealed that a Mexican Mafia “facilitator” relayed orders to associates within the jail, instructing them to attack an individual who falsely claimed to be part of the Mexican Mafia. This act was seen as a serious violation by the criminal organization. The victim was hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the attack.
Moreover, the investigation uncovered that drugs were moving within the jail, orchestrated by Mexican Mafia shotcallers and a secretary. These narcotics were allegedly sold to inmates, with proceeds benefiting the Mexican Mafia. Additionally, a substantial amount of drugs and other illegal items were seized during a search warrant at the facilitator’s residence.
The case is being prosecuted by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office’s Prison Crimes Unit. Photos of the fugitives, Marco Lujan and Ariel Pereyra, have been circulated, and authorities are urging anyone with information on their whereabouts to contact the FBI or the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
Overall, the charges against the Mexican Mafia members shed light on the criminal activities within the Los Angeles County jail system, highlighting the effort of law enforcement to combat such operations and ensure the safety and security of inmates.
