LARGO, FL – A Miami Hurricanes linebacker faces serious charges following a tragic crash that resulted in the deaths of a woman and two children. The incident occurred in May at the intersection of Orange View Drive and Ridge Road, sparking a comprehensive investigation by local authorities.
Early this morning, the accused, a college sophomore, surrendered to the Largo Police Department and was later transported to the Pinellas County Jail. Upon posting bond, he declined to comment on the charges, which include three counts of vehicular homicide.
The investigation revealed that the athlete was driving a Dodge Durango at nearly twice the speed limit when the collision occurred. Officials reported that the vehicle was traveling at approximately 79 mph, weaving through lanes and disregarding traffic conditions, which led to the fatal crash.
Authorities stated that the driver of a Kia, who was making a legal left turn, was struck by the Durango. The impact was severe, resulting in the immediate deaths of 10-year-old Jabari Solomon, 4-year-old Charley Sullivan Riviera, and 78-year-old Gail Price. The father of the two children narrowly survived the crash.
The police chief emphasized the severity of the charges, noting the reckless nature of the driving that led to the tragedy. Over the past months, investigators have scrutinized video footage from a nearby truck and gathered eyewitness accounts to piece together the events of May 10.
The findings pointed to a blatant disregard for safety, with aggressive and reckless driving being significant factors in the crash. The police chief noted that the actions demonstrated a willful neglect for the safety of others on the road.
Throughout the investigation, law enforcement maintained contact with the victims’ families, who have expressed relief at progress in the case. The families hope the charges bring some measure of justice for the loss of their loved ones.
As the case continues to unfold, the community grapples with the aftermath of the incident, reflecting on the impact of reckless driving and the importance of road safety.
