Minneapolis, Minnesota – Authorities are investigating another shooting involving federal law enforcement officers in the city, mere weeks after the fatal shooting of an American citizen by an immigration officer stirred nationwide protests. The latest incident occurred early Saturday morning near West 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue South, with city and local police working to gather more details.
Officials urged residents to remain calm and avoid the area. A law enforcement source provided insights into the situation, revealing that the suspect was armed with a handgun and two loaded magazines. The source indicated the situation remained fluid and that additional information would be forthcoming.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed his outrage, remarking on the disturbing nature of the incident. “Minnesota has had enough,” he said. “This is sickening.” He called on the federal administration to reassess its immigration enforcement operations, suggesting a withdrawal of “violent, untrained officers” from the state.
Senator Amy Klobuchar also weighed in, stating she is seeking more details about the shooting. She urged the federal government to withdraw Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from Minnesota. “To the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress, get ICE out of our state now,” she wrote.
The Department of Homeland Security did not respond promptly to requests for comments regarding the incident. The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed the man shot in the confrontation has died; however, further confirmation is pending.
Local officials expressed their indignation on social media. County Commissioner Angela Conley alleged that she witnessed what she described as “cold-blooded murder,” echoing the sentiment that immediate action is needed to remove federal agents from the area. In a related tweet, Ken Martin, chair of the Democratic National Committee, voiced his disbelief over the current state of affairs in the country.
Video footage circulating online appeared to depict the moments leading up to the shooting, showing several officers attempting to restrain an individual before gunfire erupted. In the aftermath, federal agents deployed chemical irritants to control the crowd gathered at the scene, where onlookers expressed their anger and distress.
Multiple sources indicated the involvement of Border Patrol in the shooting, as reports surfaced that medics were tending to the victim. The community remains on edge as officials piece together the events that led to this latest tragedy.
