Mavelikkara, India: A tragic incident rocked the town of Mavelikkara, India, when a 29-year-old woman was arrested for the murder of her 11-month-old daughter. Shilpa, a resident of Kanjiram in Kottayam, sent a chilling message to her former partner, Ajmal, confessing to the murder of their daughter, Shikhanya. The message, which read, “Molu (daughter) is dead, I killed her. My daughter…please call, our molu is gone, Aju,” proved to be a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation.
According to authorities, Shilpa committed the heinous act in the early hours of Saturday in their rented house. Despite sending WhatsApp messages to Ajmal at 3:18 am confessing to the crime, it was not taken seriously by the recipient. The lack of external injuries initially led the police to believe that the child had suffered a cardiac arrest. However, the postmortem report revealed that the cause of death was suffocation, leading to Shilpa becoming the prime suspect.
On the same Saturday morning, Shilpa arrived in Shoranur with the baby’s lifeless body in a rented car, intending to visit Ajmal, who works at a tea stall near the railway station. Upon noticing that the baby was unresponsive, Ajmal grew suspicious and contacted the Shoranur Police. Upon examination by a medical officer, it was determined that the baby had been deceased long before arriving at the hospital.
Furthermore, a friend of Ajmal witnessed Shilpa exiting the car with the baby, noting that the taxi driver fled the scene after unloading Shilpa’s luggage. Authorities are now searching for the driver, suspecting potential involvement in the tragic incident. The investigation into this heartbreaking crime continues to unfold as the community grapples with the devastating loss of an innocent life.
