Authorities said the case includes a fatal Tuesday shooting and a separate Wednesday shooting involving a vehicle.
ALBANY, Ga. — Albany police arrested Braylen Robinson after investigators linked him to a deadly Tuesday night shooting that killed 31-year-old Kiambria Young and injured four others, officials said.
The arrest followed two days of violence in South Albany and a police pursuit. Authorities said Robinson was first identified as a person of interest in the April 28 shooting in the 1000 block of South Cleveland Street, then was linked to another shooting the next day involving a man riding in a vehicle with a woman and an infant.
The first shooting happened about 10:43 p.m. Tuesday near Holloway Avenue and South Cleveland Street, officials said. Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler confirmed that Young died after the gunfire. Albany police said five people were shot in that incident, including Young. Her family said she was a mother of five, and friends described her as caring, steady and focused on her children.
On Wednesday, police said Robinson was connected to another shooting in South Albany. In that case, a male passenger was shot while traveling in a vehicle with a woman driver and an infant child. Police said the woman tried to drive the man to the hospital but crashed, causing her vehicle and another vehicle to overturn. Those involved were taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Officers later tried to contact Robinson, police said. He fled from law enforcement, leading to a pursuit before he was taken into custody and transported to the Dougherty County Jail. Police said he faces three counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement officers, reckless driving and felony fleeing or attempting to elude. Authorities said the homicide investigation is still active, and additional details could be released as the case moves forward.
Police had not released a motive in the shootings. Officials also had not publicly identified the surviving victims from the South Cleveland Street shooting. The case drew attention in Albany because it began with a fatal shooting near homes and was followed by another shooting involving a child inside a vehicle, then a pursuit that ended with Robinson’s arrest.
At the scene of the first shooting, residents and community members placed memorial items for Young. Octavius Spencer, who said he was Young’s friend, said he took cover when shots were fired and later saw Young on the ground. He said Young would normally have been working and then spending time with her children, who often played outside after she came home.
As of May 3, Robinson remained the only publicly named suspect in the case. Albany police said the homicide investigation remains ongoing, with one woman dead, several people hurt and investigators still working through evidence from both shooting scenes.
