WASHINGTON, DC – The family of 14-year-old Avion Evans is seeking justice after he was fatally shot at the Brookland-Catholic University Metro station.
Evans’ mother, India Wells, is determined to see her son’s killer brought to justice. Metropolitan police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect seen in surveillance video footage.
In the midst of her grief, Wells finds solace in fighting for justice for her son. She expresses her determination, stating, “I’m just trying to keep it together for my son.”
Evans was on his way to an after-school program when he was tragically killed. Described as a bright and curious student, he attended Ida B Wells Middle School and had a passion for debate, track, and computer graphics.
The fatal shooting occurred during a dispute involving a group of teenagers at the metro station. The suspect, who was not part of the initial altercation, pulled out a gun and shot Evans, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wells reminisces about her son’s interests and passions, highlighting the senselessness of his death. She hopes for the swift capture of the shooter, urging anyone with information to come forward to assist the police investigation.
As Wells reflects on her loss from her Northeast DC front porch, she remains steadfast in her pursuit of justice for her son. She emphasizes the need for peace and closure, stating, “I have to stand up for him.”
