Motorcyclist Killed in Iredell County Crash Due to Excessive Speed, Troopers Investigate

WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA – Charges are pending after authorities discovered a firearm in the possession of a child in the area of Willard Road. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office reported that the gun was discharged behind apartments on Green Oaks Court, but did not disclose any details about property damage or the individual responsible for firing the weapon. The firearm in question lacked a serial number, prompting the North Carolina Juvenile Justice system to issue a secure custody order. Deputies are now in the process of filing a petition to charge the juvenile with possession of a firearm.

In other news, state officials are warning residents to be cautious of individuals posing as agents from the State Department of Insurance going door to door selling insurance policies. It has been reported that these impostors may even present fake business cards with the department’s logo. However, it’s important to note that the Department of Insurance does not engage in direct sales of insurance products. Additionally, residents in Davidson County have received fraudulent letters purportedly from the tax office, labeled as Distraint Warrants, urging recipients to call an 800 number to dispute the charges. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene on I-77 North near mile marker 56 around 1:40 a.m. The collision involved a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling north on the interstate that failed to reduce speed and collided with a northbound 1998 International box truck. The motorcyclist, identified as Dustin Kyle Pope, 35, from Statesville, was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the site of the crash. The driver of the box truck was unharmed. An investigation revealed that excessive speed was the primary factor leading to the collision, resulting in a temporary closure of the roadway for approximately two hours.
