Hattiesburg, Mississippi – The Hattiesburg Police, with the assistance of the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, have made an arrest in connection with the tragic shooting incident that took the life of 15-year-old Jayna Lumzy.
A 17-year-old male from Lamar County has been formally charged with first-degree murder in the case. He has been charged as an adult and is currently being held at the Forrest County Jail.

The incident took place on Monday, March 25, 2024, around 4:45 a.m. when Hattiesburg Police responded to a shooting at the 1500 block of Country Club Road. Upon arrival, they found the 15-year-old victim, Jayna Lumzy, unresponsive in the exterior stairwell of the complex. Despite efforts to save her, Lumzy tragically succumbed to her injuries.
