BELFAST, Northern Ireland – A 26-year-old man, Kevin Conway, originally from the Lurgan area, was fatally shot at his home in the Greenan area of the city on Tuesday night. Conway was one of three men charged in connection with the murder of Shane Whitla in Lurgan in January 2023. During court hearings, it was revealed that he was under threat. Detective Inspector Gina Quinn described Conway’s killing as a “horrific, calculated, and ruthless” act, stating that he was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency services responded to the scene at Rossnareen Park, off the Shaws Road, on Tuesday night, where Conway was pronounced dead. Forensic experts and the K-9 dog unit scoured the area, collecting evidence such as blood-stained clothing. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service also confirmed that paramedics were called to the scene but were unable to save Conway’s life.
In response to the incident, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is planning to increase patrols in the Greenan area in the coming days. The PSNI is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation. Amid concerns within the community, Sinn Fein MP Paul Maskey stated, “This is a heavy footfall area, and the residents have made it clear they do not want guns in their area.”
