NASHUA, N.H. — A local man is in custody following a violent incident that left a woman with serious injuries, including a head laceration that required five staples for treatment. The accused, 35-year-old Carlos Contreras Perez, was arrested on Sunday after police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance.
According to law enforcement, the victim reported being assaulted by Perez, who allegedly inflicted non-life-threatening injuries during the altercation. Court documents reveal that Perez pushed her against a door, resulting in bruising, and later struck her in the head with an unknown object. The attack intensified as he is accused of forcibly assaulting her and preventing her from calling for help by seizing her cellphone.
As a result of the incident, Perez faces multiple charges, including aggravated felonious sexual assault, second-degree assault with a domestic violence designation, and several misdemeanor offenses such as false imprisonment and obstructing a report of a crime. These charges highlight the severity of the situation and the serious allegations against him, indicating a troubling pattern of violence and control.
During his arraignment on Monday at the 9th Circuit Nashua District Court, Perez pleaded not guilty to all counts. He was placed on preventive detention and is scheduled for a probable cause hearing at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The legal ramifications of these charges, if upheld, could lead to significant consequences for Perez.
The New Hampshire Public Defender’s Office is representing Perez, though they were not immediately available for further comment on the case. Meanwhile, the Nashua Police Department is actively seeking additional information and is encouraging anyone with knowledge of the incident to reach out through their Crime Line.
As the investigation continues, local authorities remain vigilant in addressing domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of community awareness and support for victims. The case serves as a stark reminder of the issues surrounding domestic abuse and the need for resources and vigilance in combating such incidents.
