LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Netflix delves into the world of crime docuseries with its latest investigation into a mysterious conspiracy surrounding the hidden organization known as The Octopus. The streaming service has commissioned a new docuseries, “American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders,” from Duplass Brothers Productions and Stardust Frames, the creators behind the successful series “Wild Wild Country.” Directed by Zachary Treitz, the series is set to premiere on February 28 and is expected to unravel the enigma behind The Octopus.
The story begins with the suspicious death of journalist Danny Casolaro, whose demise was initially ruled a suicide by the authorities. However, his family and colleagues suspect foul play, believing that he was killed for delving into a conspiracy he referred to as “The Octopus” – an elusive organization intertwined with the theft of government spy software, a series of unsolved murders, and major political scandals of the 20th century. Years later, researcher Christian Hansen endeavors to uncover the truth behind Casolaro’s death and the narrative that cost him his life.
The four-part series aims to untangle this complex web of secrecy, shedding light on the mystery that has captivated many. Executive producers include Treitz, Chapman Way, Maclain Way, Juliana Lembi, Mark Duplass, Jay Duplass, Mel Eslyn, and Christian Hansen. Mark Duplass expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the unique perspective and unwavering dedication of Treitz and Christian to the story, and the opportunity to collaborate once again with the brilliant Way Brothers, with whom they previously worked on “Wild, Wild Country.”
