Captain Jack Kennedy, head of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, reported that officers responded to the scene in the 3400 block shortly before 11 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old Keeondray Sterling had been shot. Witnesses indicated that the incident stemmed from a dispute over a woman, escalating into violence amidst what was supposed to be an informal gathering at the venue.
Shortly after the shooting, 37-year-old Cordell Shepherd contacted law enforcement and confessed to firing the weapon that killed Sterling. Following consultations with the District Attorney’s Office, Shepherd was charged with murder and remanded to the county jail without bond.
