Nurse Accused of Disconnecting Mother from Life Support

MIAMI, FL – A nurse in Florida has been taken into custody after she allegedly disconnected her mother from life support, resulting in her mother’s death. Jawan Seth Green, 54, who has been a registered nurse for over two decades, is now facing charges of first-degree manslaughter and aggravated abuse of an elderly or disabled adult.

The incident began on May 5, when Green’s mother was admitted to North Shore Medical Center due to breathing difficulties. Her condition quickly deteriorated, requiring her to be moved to the intensive care unit and placed on a ventilator. On the day of the incident, Green reportedly visited the hospital with her children and expressed her intent to end her mother’s suffering by removing the ventilator.

Medical personnel responded promptly to the alarm that sounded when the ventilator was removed, and they attempted to revive the patient. However, Green allegedly urged them to stop, stating that she wished for her mother to pass away peacefully. Her mother died shortly after the intervention ceased.

Green left the hospital before authorities could arrive but was later apprehended at her residence. She appeared before a judge on Monday, who determined there was enough evidence to proceed with the charges. Green is currently being held without bail.

A spokesperson for Health Care Systems of America clarified that Green was not employed by North Shore Medical Center and emphasized their commitment to cooperating with the investigation. This case has sparked discussions about the ethical and legal challenges surrounding end-of-life care decisions.

Green is expected to appear in court again as the legal proceedings continue. The incident underscores the importance of adhering to medical protocols and the complexities involved in making decisions regarding life support.
