LAGOS, Nigeria — The Obidient Movement has issued a strong rebuke against an alleged violent incident targeting prominent activist MamaPee, which the group claims was orchestrated by Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
In a statement released on Saturday, the movement accused Abure of employing armed thugs to attack MamaPee, labeling the incident as a troubling development that threatens the values of democracy. The organization emphasized that such actions undermine public trust and reflect poorly on those in leadership positions.
“Instead of embodying the qualities of a responsible leader, Julius Abure has resorted to employing intimidation tactics against MamaPee, a well-regarded social advocate and a crucial member of our movement,” the statement says. The group highlighted that the alleged assault represents not just a personal attack but also an affront to the dignity of women and the democratic principles that many Nigerians strive to uphold.
The Obidient Movement characterized the attack as a barbaric act that signifies a deeper failure of integrity on Abure’s part, arguing that it showcases a troubling trend of violence intertwined with political discourse in Nigeria. “This behavior not only reveals cowardice but also illustrates a disturbing lack of vision for the country’s future,” the statement continued.
Reiterating their unwavering support for MamaPee, the Obidient Movement insists that such acts of aggression will not deter her or those she advocates for. The organization asserts, “No level of threat or violence will stifle MamaPee or the millions whose voices she amplifies. In fact, such actions only strengthen the resolve of Nigerians to stand against tyranny.”
The movement has called upon law enforcement officials to take swift action, urging the Inspector General of Police and relevant authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly. “It is imperative that those responsible for this attack face justice, as violence should not become a mechanism for political expression in our country.”
In their final remarks, the Obidient Movement condemned Abure’s leadership capability, stating, “Julius Abure has demonstrated that he is ill-equipped to lead or inspire. His resort to thuggery is an affront to our democratic ideals and to all who champion fairness and justice.”
Concluding on a note of solidarity, the group declared, “We stand by MamaPee and reaffirm our commitment to a future where truth prevails. Violence will not halt our pursuit of a New Nigeria.”
