Investigators closed part of North Hanley Road after a daytime shooting in north St. Louis County.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — One man died and another was hospitalized after a shooting Monday afternoon near Bel-Ridge, prompting a large police response and the closure of part of North Hanley Road in north St. Louis County.
Police said Normandy officers were called to the 2800 block of North Hanley Road at about 2:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators said a second man with life-threatening injuries was found nearby in the 7700 block of Chorman Avenue. He also was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities did not immediately release either man’s name, age or condition beyond saying one person had died and another had been injured.
The shooting happened in an area just outside Bel-Ridge and near the University of Missouri–St. Louis. Police blocked traffic on North Hanley Road between Welsberg Drive and Carson Road as officers secured the scene and detectives began collecting evidence. There was no immediate estimate for when the road would reopen.
Normandy police asked the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons to take over the investigation. As of Monday evening, no suspect had been announced and no arrest had been reported. Investigators also had not said what led to the shooting or whether the two men knew each other.
The case remained active Monday night as officers continued processing the scene and asking drivers to avoid the area. Authorities are expected to release more information once detectives complete initial interviews and identify those involved.
