One killed, several injured in Clearwater sports bar shooting

Investigators named the man who died and identified four wounded survivors after Sunday night gunfire.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Clearwater detectives on Monday said a Sunday night parking-lot shooting outside Fuzzy’s Sports Bar & Grill left 24-year-old Jordan Javontay Walls dead and injured four other men, all in their 20s. The gunfire erupted just before 8 p.m. at the plaza on South Highland Avenue.

The department said early evidence indicates the attack was not random. Officers responding to 911 calls found Walls fatally wounded beside parked cars, while four additional victims were dropped at Morton Plant Hospital by a driver who left without speaking to staff. Police said two men wearing dark clothing fled after the shots. Detectives spent the night processing the lot for casings, canvassing for video and interviewing patrons and nearby workers.

By midday Monday, officials released the names of the wounded: Teron Albert Dudley, 27; Jaheim Jabez Maxie, 23; Lamar Johnson, 23; and Antwone Jackquezz Holmes, 22. Police did not immediately provide conditions for the survivors. Investigators said they are pulling footage from exterior cameras at the bar and surrounding storefronts and asking nearby businesses for copies. “Based on what we know now, this does not appear to be random,” the department said in a statement, adding that two suspects were seen running from the area after shots were fired.

Fuzzy’s sits along a heavily traveled stretch south of downtown Clearwater, a corridor lined with small restaurants, auto shops and service businesses. On Monday, a section of the lot remained cordoned off as technicians marked evidence and photographed vehicles left overnight. Witnesses reported a brief burst of shots and people ducking behind cars. One shop owner described officers going door to door for video. The plaza reopened in stages as detectives finished measurements and collected casings for ballistic analysis.

Police outlined a standard evidence track for this type of case: match any recovered casings to known firearms, review license-plate data and hospital security footage for the vehicle that dropped off the wounded, and compare surveillance timelines to witness statements. Detectives said they are coordinating with prosecutors on potential charges once suspects are identified. No arrests had been announced as of Monday afternoon. Officials said additional updates are expected after key witness interviews and video reviews scheduled this week.

As dusk approached Monday, a few people returned to retrieve cars as workers swept the lot. “It was loud and fast — then everyone ran,” said a woman who asked to be identified only by her first name, Courtney, who photographed the taped-off scene. A neighboring employee said police collected a copy of his security feed before sunrise and told him detectives would follow up once they logged the footage.

Investigators said the case remains active. The next formal update is expected once detectives complete the initial video review and have confirmation on suspect descriptions later this week.
