Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, India — Early Sunday morning, residents of Limboti village and nearby areas in Beed’s Parli taluka staged a protest, demanding justice after an 18-year-old was violently attacked by a group of individuals. The demonstration included a rasta roko, effectively halting traffic on the Parli-Beed road until police and district officials intervened.
The protestors are calling for the implementation of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the alleged assailants, whom they claim are part of a gang. Tensions have escalated following an incident on May 16, when Shivraj Diwate was reportedly kidnapped and beaten by roughly 20 individuals over a minor dispute. Local authorities subsequently filed charges of attempted murder, rioting, and kidnapping, arresting seven suspects, who have since been placed in police custody.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of this violent episode, a newly surfaced video has raised additional concerns. The footage appears to show one of the accused being attacked by individuals claiming to be friends of Diwate, a purported incident that took place prior to his own assault. Police are reviewing the video as part of their ongoing investigation.
Shivraj Diwate is currently receiving medical treatment at a government hospital in Ambajogai. His condition has drawn attention from local leaders, including Dhananjay Munde, an MLA from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Munde expressed his commitment to ensuring a comprehensive investigation, stating that Diwate is considered “like family.”
Meanwhile, Beed MP Bajrang Sonawane, who also visited Diwate, criticized local governance by implying that the region has been plagued by violence and lawlessness for years. He insisted that authorities must arrest all individuals involved and impose severe penalties for their actions.
Other political figures chimed in on the issue, including Ashti BJP MLA Suresh Dhas, who highlighted the ongoing threat posed by local gangs. Dhas pointed to suspected connections between Diwate’s attackers and a known figure linked to a recent homicide in the area, further emphasizing the need for the police to invoke MCOCA against those involved.
