Warrington, England – The father of Brianna Ghey, a transgender teenager brutally murdered in a park last February, has condemned her killers as “a pair of monsters” who he believes should be forgotten. Peter Spooner shared his sentiments with Sky News following the sentencing of the 16-year-olds responsible for his daughter’s death in Cheshire.
In a heartfelt tribute, Spooner fondly described Brianna as “beautiful and talented,” lamenting the memories they would never make together due to her tragic murder. Reflecting on the brutality of her death, he expressed a sense of “complete and utter horror” that still haunts him.
The two teenage killers, previously known as girl X and boy Y during their trial, were identified as Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe for the first time by a judge at Manchester Crown Court. They were convicted for fatally stabbing Brianna in a “sustained and violent assault” using a hunting knife in Culcheth near Warrington.
According to Spooner, he had initially supported the decision to lift reporting restrictions and make the names of Brianna’s killers public. However, he later reconsidered, stating, “I think they should just be forgotten about, locked up and not be spoken about again. They’re nothing.” His viewpoint reflects the anguish and anger he continues to grapple with in the aftermath of his daughter’s murder.
During the trial, it was revealed that Jenkinson and Ratcliffe had exchanged messages detailing their plan to kill Brianna and had even compiled a list of four other potential victims. The evidence presented portrayed them as individuals with a disturbing fascination with violence, torture, and murder, leading to a conclusion that they had a “thirst for killing.”
Spooner acknowledged the overwhelming support and love shown for Brianna in the wake of her death, providing some comfort to the grieving family. However, the profound impact of Brianna’s absence leaves him constantly yearning for the moments they could have shared.
