ALBANY, N.Y. – An emergency meeting was convened on December 1 by Parkview Apartments Tenant Association President, Diane Deitz. The meeting was called in response to the recent deaths of several tenants within the span of two weeks, as reported by Deitz.
According to Deitz, a total of nine deaths occurred within a little over two weeks, in addition to an ongoing issue of mold within the building. These concerns led to a pressing need for immediate attention and action.
An official response from Noelle Affordable Housing Corporation, the owner of Parkview Apartments, and Wingate Management stated that three individuals passed away in November 2023. The spokesperson clarified that all three deaths were due to natural causes and occurred while the individuals were hospitalized.
Concerns raised by the tenants included issues with rodents, pests, and water access dating back to the previous year. Reports revealed that some tenants had undergone blood tests that showed traces of mold, which, according to Deitz, could have contributed to their hospitalization.
Back in June 2023, NEWS10’s Anthony Krolikowski investigated the apartments for damages and code violations while under the management of Commercial Residential Management. The management of the apartments was later taken over by Wingate as of October 1, 2023.
In February 2023, the building experienced a flood after pipes froze and burst, leading to the evacuation of dozens of residents to a nearby hotel. These concerns resurfaced among the tenants, who fear a recurrence of such incidents.
The Albany County Health Department have stated that they were not aware of the recent deaths. The Noelle Affordable Housing Corporation provided a response to NEWS10 on December 21, 2023, addressing the ongoing issues within the complex.
