Pasadena Court to Set Hearing for Man Accused in Brutal Metro Station Attack

Pasadena, CA – A 33-year-old man, Juan Pablo Flores, is due in court this Thursday facing charges of attempted murder following a harrowing incident where he allegedly assaulted a woman, throwing her onto train tracks and into freeway traffic at a Pasadena Metro station.

The attack, which occurred early on August 7, left the victim with severe injuries. According to police reports, the violent altercation took place on the Allen Metro A Line station platform situated above North Allen Avenue. Video footage captured Flores engaging in the brutal act, showing him punching the woman, slamming her head against the platform, and finally pushing her onto the train tracks.

Further exacerbating the assault, the video shows Flores kicking the woman and dragging her towards the freeway, where she was almost hit by a passing vehicle. Flores was arrested shortly after the attack at approximately 5:45 a.m., near the intersection of Allen Avenue and Villa Street.

Set for an 8:30 a.m. appearance in Department H of the Pasadena Courthouse, a preliminary hearing will be scheduled to ascertain whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial. Flores, who remains in custody on a $2 million bail, has entered a plea of not guilty to charges of attempted murder and mayhem.

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly suffered a broken nose, numerous lacerations necessitating staples and stitches, and faces potential long-term facial disfigurement. Though she has been released from the hospital, she continues to require the support of her family to walk due to the severity of her injuries.

This attack, characterized by its shocking and unprovoked nature, has drawn sharp criticism from Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón. “No one should have to endure such brutality, and everyone deserves to go about their day without fear for their safety,” Gascón expressed. The incident has prompted local officials, including County Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Janice Hahn, to demand increased security measures at metro stations and a thorough investigation into how such a violent act could have occurred.

If convicted, Flores faces a potential life sentence in prison, highlighting the serious nature of the charges against him. The case continues to unfold, as authorities and the community seek justice for the brutal attack that has left a woman severely injured and a local community shaken.
