Pinole Man Faces Murder Charges After Assault Leaves Beloved Elder Fatality

Pinole, California – A man initially arrested for a violent confrontation is now facing homicide charges following the death of a 74-year-old woman who was critically injured in the attack. Police reported that the incident occurred on May 28 when two individuals were out walking their dog near Bayfront Park.

The attack was carried out with a blunt object, leaving one of the victims, Vera Rowsey, in need of immediate medical attention. Detectives quickly identified a suspect, Miguel Patino, 27, who was apprehended in nearby Richmond. Initially charged with aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse, Patino’s situation escalated when Rowsey tragically passed away on June 4.

In light of Rowsey’s death, the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office has upgraded the charges against Patino to include murder and elder abuse. He is currently being held on bail set at $1,125,000, according to police officials.

Pinole Mayor Cameron Sasai expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Rowsey, describing her as a cherished member of the community. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time,” Sasai stated. The mayor emphasized the importance of justice and healing in the aftermath of this “senseless act of violence.”

Authorities are actively investigating the case and have encouraged anyone with information to reach out to the Pinole Police Department to aid in the ongoing proceedings.
