MARIETTA, GA – A chaotic series of events unfolded at a Marietta apartment complex late Wednesday night, leaving two men injured and leading to a dramatic car wreck miles away. The sequence began when gunshots rang out at the Lakeside at Towne Center apartments, prompting multiple residents to call 911.
Witnesses provided a critical description of a black BMW speeding away from the scene. Marietta police quickly located the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, sparking a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended abruptly when the BMW crashed at the intersection of Polk and Mountain View, striking a power pole and flipping onto its side.
Inside the wrecked car were five men, all of whom were taken into custody for questioning. Police discovered multiple handguns and a rifle within the vehicle, adding another layer of complexity to the investigation. Around the same time, two men arrived at Kennestone Hospital, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Although their conditions were not immediately known, they were conscious and alert upon arrival.
Authorities suspect that up to 15 individuals may have been involved in the shooting, including the five men in the BMW and the two injured parties. Detectives are trying to determine whether the gunmen were targeting each other or someone else entirely. At least three weapons were reportedly used during the incident.
The gunfire left several vehicles and buildings in the apartment complex riddled with bullet holes. One stray bullet even penetrated the window of a resident’s unit, though fortunately, no bystanders were harmed. Police are still working to ascertain any potential connections between the individuals involved and the apartment complex.
As the investigation continues, authorities are piecing together the chaotic events of that night. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
