A 47-year-old man is accused of stabbing a woman and an 18-year-old girl at an Elm Place address.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Three people were hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after a stabbing at a west Toledo apartment, police said. Officers responded about 2:15 p.m. to the 4900 block of Elm Place near West Laskey Road and took a 47-year-old man into custody at the scene.
Authorities said the episode unfolded during a domestic dispute inside the unit. The man, identified by police as Ramsey Saad, is accused of stabbing two family members — a woman and an 18-year-old girl — multiple times. Both victims suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital. Saad also sustained injuries and was hospitalized under guard, police said. Detectives collected a knife and other evidence from the apartment as the case moved from an emergency response to a criminal investigation. Charges were filed late Wednesday, and additional counts are possible as medical evaluations continue.
Officers arrived within minutes of the 2:15 p.m. call and found the two victims with multiple wounds, including at least one stab wound to the woman’s neck, according to a preliminary report. Investigators said the victims told police the attacker threatened to kill them before the stabbing. Saad was located inside the residence and detained without further incident. “Our crews worked quickly to secure the scene and get the injured to treatment,” a police spokesperson said. Neighbors reported seeing cruisers and medics line the block as yellow tape went up around the small apartment complex off West Laskey Road.
Police said Saad faces two counts of felonious assault and one count of attempting to commit an offense. Detectives described the situation as domestic in nature and said no other suspects were being sought. Officials did not immediately release updated conditions for the woman and teenager; both were described as having life-threatening injuries when they were transported. The apartment where the attack occurred sits on Elm Place, a short residential street north of West Laskey, with several multi-unit buildings and small parking lots. Investigators canvassed the area for surveillance video and spoke with residents who were home during the afternoon.
Records show the call came in during the school dismissal hour, drawing attention as buses and commuters moved through the corridor between Jackman and Secor roads. While the neighborhood has seen routine police calls, residents said a midday stabbing inside an apartment is unusual. Prior police briefings initially indicated three people were stabbed with non-life-threatening injuries, but investigators later clarified that the two victims’ injuries were more serious and that the third person hospitalized was the alleged attacker.
Saad is expected to appear in court for an initial appearance after his release from the hospital. Prosecutors will review the case for potential additional charges once full medical reports are available. Police said they will provide an update on the investigation and victim conditions when doctors finalize assessments. As of Friday, no hearing date had been posted publicly and bond terms were not set. By late week, the apartment doorway on Elm Place remained taped, with a patrol car making periodic passes. A neighbor who asked not to be named said they saw medics rush two people out on stretchers while another person was escorted by officers. “It was quiet and then all the sirens,” the neighbor said. “We just stayed inside.” Another resident described seeing officers carry paper evidence bags to a cruiser as evening fell.
