MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A disturbing assault in the Cooper-Young neighborhood of Memphis has left a pregnant woman severely beaten and robbed, triggering concerns about security in the area. The incident, which occurred following a minor altercation involving the woman’s dog, has sparked a police search for the assailants.
The woman, who is six months pregnant and already a mother of two, chose to remain anonymous due to safety concerns. She recounted that the harrowing experience began on a recent Sunday afternoon. Her boyfriend was walking their dog, leashed at the time when a child reportedly approached and was bitten.
Following the incident, Memphis Fire Department personnel were dispatched to provide treatment to the child. Shortly after, the woman returned to her apartment, intending to extend apologies to the child’s family. However, what was meant to be a peaceful resolution quickly escalated into violence.
About an hour later, as she arrived home, two masked men armed with guns confronted her. They aggressively inquired about her boyfriend’s and the offending dog’s whereabouts, ignoring her pleas and her condition. Fearing for her life and her unborn child, she complied in hopes of de-escalating the situation.
The confrontation intensified when the assailants, described as teenagers wearing ski masks, followed her as she tried to flee. They caught up with her in a stairwell where she was brutally pistol-whipped and robbed of her possessions, including her iPhone and purse.
Despite the terrifying ordeal, the woman protected herself as best as she could, focusing on shielding her unborn child. She expressed profound gratitude that her baby was unharmed, emphasizing the intensity and danger of the assault.
The attackers reportedly fled the scene in a black Nissan Altima, which was later spotted by police. Authorities attempted a traffic stop shortly after the assault, but the driver sped away, evading capture.
In the aftermath, the victim voiced significant concerns regarding the safety measures at her apartment complex. She pointed out that the surveillance cameras were not operational and the entry gates were faulty, factors she believes contributed to the severity of the incident. These security flaws have compelled her to consider relocating her family to ensure their safety.
As of now, police are actively seeking the suspects involved in this crime. They urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation. The community, meanwhile, remains on edge as authorities work to enhance safety measures and prevent such violent incidents in the future.
