TOBOLSK, Russia – Russian political ally Vladimir Egorov was discovered dead after an alleged fall from a third-floor window, as reported by Russian state media. Egorov, a member of Putin’s United Russia party, served as Tobolsk City Duma deputy. He plunged from the third-floor window of a house in Tobolsk in the Tyumen Oblast, Russian Telegram channel Baza reported.
Egorov’s body showed “no sign of criminal death,” according to reports, and it is suspected that he may have suffered from heart problems before the fall. Pathologists are awaiting the official autopsy results to determine the cause of death, and police are investigating the circumstances of his fall.
Egorov, a lawyer, was forced out of the city administration in 2016 following a corruption scandal, although he was not convicted. Upon returning to politics, he became one of the wealthiest local deputies in Tobolsk, with his income amounting to 9.1 million rubles (about $100,500), according to Russian news outlet RBC.
Egorov’s death is the latest in a series of suspicious falls involving notable Putin allies since the war against Ukraine began. The situation has raised questions about the frequency with which heart problems are cited as the cause of untimely or suspicious deaths of prominent people in Russia.
Egorov leaves behind a wife and two children. The circumstances of his death are still under investigation, and authorities are awaiting the results of the official autopsy.
