PROVO, Utah – A Provo woman was arrested and accused of killing her husband in their northwest Provo home Saturday night. Melissa Johnson-Fausett, 56, claimed she shot her husband in self-defense, but the evidence seems to indicate otherwise.
Corry Fausett, 55, was found dead in their home at 1116 W. 1460 North, with multiple bullet wounds. Johnson-Fausett told the police that she shot him after he attacked her in their bedroom, grabbing her by the neck and hitting her in the head. However, investigators found a second handgun with blood spatter in Johnson-Fausett’s purse, contradicting her claim that she shot at her husband in self-defense.
Furthermore, there was no obvious blood on the gun found on her bed. The evidence also showed that one of the gunshot wounds on Fausett’s body had “burn marks, indicating it was a close-range shot.” This contradicts Johnson-Fausett’s statement that she shot him in self-defense.
The police also reported that doctors and paramedics who evaluated Johnson-Fausett found no evidence of injury to her head, further undermining her claim of self-defense.
Based on the evidence found and collected at the house, it is believed that Johnson-Fausett intentionally or knowingly caused the death of her husband and was no longer acting in self-defense. She was subsequently booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of murder.
