Pune, India – Four individuals have been apprehended by the Nigdi police following a violent attack on a 38-year-old businessman and his friend in Transportnagar, late Saturday evening. The altercation, which escalated into a physical assault, reportedly began after a minor traffic incident involving the victims’ scooter and the suspects’ two-wheeler.
The victims, identified only as residents of Akurdi, were returning home after dining out when their scooter was sideswiped by the suspects’ vehicle. This minor collision set off a sequence of events that quickly spiraled out of control. According to officials, an initial exchange of words led to the businessman and his friend slapping one of the suspects, which in turn led to the summoning of additional accomplices by the assailants.
Police official Ashok Shirke detailed that the confrontation soon turned violent, resulting in severe internal injuries to the businessman, who is currently receiving medical care at a private hospital. His friend sustained minor bruises and was able to leave the scene.
The individuals arrested in this connection have been named as Om Dalvi, 22, Omkar Avande, 24, Ganesh Kumbhar, 26, and Pritesh Jadhav, 21, who all reside in Siddhivinayaknagar, Nigdi. Authorities have charged them with various offenses, including attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt, as outlined under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This incident underscores the potential dangers of road rage and minor incidents escalating into major confrontations. It also raises concerns about youth involvement in violent behaviors and the adequacy of current preventive measures. Local residents and business owners expressed increased concern over safety and public harmony, emphasizing the need for enhanced community policing efforts.
Law enforcement is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, with further action pending additional findings. Meanwhile, local community leaders are calling for calm and restraint, urging citizens to resolve disputes amicably and alert authorities about any potential conflicts before they escalate. The Nigdi police are also increasing patrols in key areas to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The community response includes a planned meeting aimed at addressing the violence and brainstorming proactive safety and awareness initiatives to foster a safer environment.
