Queens Rape Case Suspect Nabbed in Georgia

NEW YORK, NY – Decades after a series of terrifying assaults left a Queens community on edge, authorities have made a significant arrest in the cold case. Michael Benjamin, 57, was taken into custody in Georgia and charged with raping five women from 1995 to 1997, thanks to new DNA analysis.

The case, once stalled, saw renewed interest after DNA from a discarded cup linked Benjamin to the crimes. This technological advancement has given hope to victims who have long awaited justice.

The assaults, reported in Springfield Gardens, Laurelton, and Rosedale, involved a suspect who entered victims’ homes through windows, threatened them, and committed robbery. Residents lived in fear during this period as the attacks continued unabated.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz highlighted the importance of pursuing justice, regardless of how much time has passed. Her office’s dedication to solving cold cases has been a beacon of hope for many.

In addition to the current charges, Benjamin is accused of assaulting a 12-year-old girl in 1990. However, due to legal constraints, he cannot be charged for this crime. Previously, he admitted to attempted rape and was placed on probation, becoming a high-risk sex offender.

Benjamin’s lawyer has denied all allegations, arguing that many charges are beyond the statute of limitations. The defense is prepared to challenge the case rigorously.

Facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted, Benjamin remains in custody without bail. His case is set to proceed in court, drawing attention from a community eager for resolution.
