HOLLYWOOD, FL – A devastating crash in Hollywood, Florida, has left a victim partially paralyzed and a community reeling. A 17-year-old, identified as Daniel Malakoff, was reportedly speeding at 126 mph in a BMW when he collided with another vehicle on Sheridan Street.
According to police, the teenager accelerated from 105 mph to 126 mph in just five seconds. At such speeds, a vehicle can travel the length of a football field in 1.62 seconds. The crash, which occurred in January, resulted in severe injuries to a 72-year-old passenger, including cervical fractures, liver damage, and brain bleeding.
The impact was so forceful that it split the victim’s car in half. The injured passenger now resides in an assisted living facility due to the life-altering injuries sustained.
During bond court proceedings, prosecutors revealed that Malakoff was driving with a suspended license and had previously posted videos on social media showing him driving at speeds of up to 200 mph.
Hollywood Police conducted a thorough investigation over several months, leading to Malakoff’s arrest last week. He faces serious charges, and his bond has been set at $165,000. As a condition of his release, he is prohibited from driving.
The crash has sparked outrage and concern within the community, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving. While thankful that no fatalities occurred, residents are calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and greater awareness of the consequences of high-speed driving.
As the case proceeds, the focus remains on justice for the victim and preventing similar incidents in the future.
