Rockford, Illinois – Rakim Chaney, a senior at Rockford Auburn, achieved a remarkable feat by setting a school record with 41 points in a home game win against Hononegah on Saturday night, also marking his entry into the 1,000-point club for his career. His extraordinary performance in the final home game at the Castle has solidified his legacy in the school’s basketball history. In addition to Chaney’s outstanding achievement, there were several other noteworthy results from both boys’ and girls’ basketball games on Saturday.

In the NIC-10 boys’ games, Auburn secured a convincing 77-48 victory over Hononegah, with Chaney’s historic 41-point performance taking center stage. Meanwhile, Guilford triumphed over Lindblom with a score of 72-65, with Johnson contributing 17 points to the win. The Freeport team also emerged victorious against Belvidere North with a score of 49-43, further solidifying their conference play record at 13-4. Boylan secured a close 54-50 win over Rockford East, with Hocking scoring 15 points for the Titans and Leach delivering 21 points for East.

In addition to the NIC-10 boys’ games, several other boys’ basketball games took place on Saturday, with Neuqua Valley, South Beloit, Forreston, and Sycamore emerging as the victors in their respective matches.

The girls’ 1A regional games on Saturday saw several teams securing impressive victories, including Dakota, Lena-Winslow, Alden-Hebron, River Ridge/Scales, Newman, Polo, Warren, and Stockton. Additionally, the girls’ 2A and 3A regional games showcased the talent and determination of teams such as Rockford Christian, Winnebago, Johnsburg, Rochelle, Erie Prophetstown, and Marengo, with each team putting up commendable performances and securing noteworthy victories.
