Dallas, Texas — A man fatally shot at The Shops at RedBird had an active restraining order against the woman accused of his murder, according to court documents. Rashonda Lowe, 43, was taken into custody following the incident on Tuesday afternoon, where police found Jaime Alejandro Rokkett, 53, with gunshot wounds inside his business.
Authorities responded just before 4 p.m. to the mall located on West Camp Wisdom Road, where they discovered Rokkett suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rokkett owned Cookies N Smoothies, a store situated within the mall. Witnesses reported seeing an argument between him and a woman before the shooting commenced. Surveillance footage from the mall indicated that Rokkett and Lowe engaged in conversation for about an hour prior to the violence, culminating in multiple shots fired from Lowe’s firearm.
After the shooting, Lowe reportedly fled the scene in a white SUV, which was later identified through license plate recognition technology as being registered to her. Police interviewing Rokkett’s wife learned that Lowe had allegedly been harassing Rokkett, prompting the active restraining order against her.
Following the incident, Lowe contacted authorities in Arlington, where she admitted her involvement in what she described as a “domestic situation” with her former partner. She acknowledged shooting Rokkett and indicated she had left the weapon at the site of the crime.
Lowe declined to provide further details when approached by detectives at the Dallas police headquarters, requesting legal representation after being read her rights. She was booked into the Dallas County jail, facing murder charges, with bail yet to be determined as of early Wednesday.
The tragic incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and its tragic consequences. It serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed in such situations, stressing the importance of taking restraining orders seriously. Community responses have highlighted the need for improved support systems for individuals facing harassment or violence from former partners.
