Ilford, East London – Four men who were involved in a gangland revenge hit that resulted in the murders of two rappers have been sentenced to at least 38 years in prison. The gang stormed into a house in Ilford, East London, armed with guns and knives, and killed Saydi Abu Sheikh, 23, and Zakariya Jeilani Mohamed, 31, on October 25, 2022. Neighbors mistook the initial gunfire for fireworks as the attackers fired 45 shots during the three-minute assault.
The victims were subjected to a brutal attack, with one being stabbed 28 times and shot four times, and the other being stabbed five times and shot seven times. The gang members were overheard during the attack, indicating that they made sure to finish off one of the victims. A third man was also shot six times but survived, while a fourth escaped with a shoulder wound, and a fifth man managed to hide between the bed and the wall.
The orchestrator of the attack, Zain Mirza, sought revenge for his brother’s death three years earlier. He recruited three others, Chibiuke Ohanweh, Ayaani Ali Adan, and Mahad Gouled, to carry out the shooting. All four men were found guilty of two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and perverting the course of justice, leading to life imprisonment with a mandatory minimum term of 38 years.
In addition to the prison sentences, a fifth man, Zakarie Mohamed, was sentenced to four years in a young offenders’ institution for perverting the course of justice.
During the trial, Judge Mark Lucraft, KC described the attack as an “orchestrated and planned attack” and criticized the rivalry and violence that has been taking place on the streets of London. The victims’ families expressed their immense pain and sorrow, emphasizing the devastating impact the murders had on their lives.
