Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — Authorities in Broward County have increased a reward to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in the fatal 2022 Mother’s Day shooting that tragically cut short the life of Dru’Niyyia Griffin. The young woman succumbed this year to injuries sustained in the attack, which initially left her paralyzed and fighting for her life over two long years.
The incident occurred on the evening of May 8, 2022, when Griffin, then aged 20, was found critically wounded in her vehicle—a black Honda Accord—located in the 2800 block of Northwest 15th Court in an unincorporated area of Central Broward near Fort Lauderdale. Responding officers discovered Griffin seated in the driver’s side, battling life-threatening injuries from multiple gunshots.
Moments after the attack, a male companion, also injured in the same incident, managed to get to a hospital where he received treatment and was subsequently released. According to investigators, the pair were stationary in Griffin’s parked car outside a residence they were visiting, when a dark SUV passed by and occupants therein unleashed a volley of gunfire at them.
In a push to help advance the ongoing investigation, the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) released surveillance footage. The disturbing video captures a barrage of bullets being fired from the suspected vehicle.
Despite ongoing efforts by homicide detectives to track down the perpetrator(s), the case remains unsolved. The BSO continues to plead for public assistance, urging anyone with potentially valuable information to contribute to resolving the case.
The escalation in the reward underlines the committed effort by law enforcement to seek justice for Griffin and provide closure to her family and friends significantly impacted by this senseless act of violence.
The BSO encourages anyone who might hold helpful knowledge about the incident to come forward and contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. In doing so, community members can play an integral role in ensuring such grievous crimes do not go unpunished and improve safety for all residents in the area.
