LAKEVILLE, Minnesota — A 50-year-old man from Rosemount has been sentenced following a brutal assault on a woman near Parkview Elementary School last October. Steven Allen Rokosz pleaded guilty to felony threats of violence earlier this month, leading to a significant penalty issued by a Dakota County District Court judge.
During a court session on December 30, Rokosz received a 90-day jail sentence and was credited for 57 days already served, leaving him with 33 days to fulfill. Additionally, the court imposed an 18-month prison sentence but stayed the execution for three years. This means he will avoid serving time unless he breaches the conditions of his probation.
Rokosz was placed under a three-year supervised probation agreement. The judge outlined strict conditions that require him to refrain from contacting the victim and to abstain from using alcohol or controlled substances, unless prescribed. He is also subjected to random drug testing and must undergo evaluations for both chemical dependency and psychological health, adhering to any recommended treatments. In a bid to ensure public safety, he is prohibited from owning firearms and must comply with all relevant laws.
The chilling details of the attack came to light through court documents. On October 4, 2025, the victim, walking near the elementary school, was approached by Rokosz, who initially spoke about religion before turning violent. The assault lasted around 45 minutes, during which he physically overpowered her, throwing her to the ground and making threatening remarks. The woman sustained severe injuries, including a head wound that later caused hallucinations.
Rokosz’s troubling behavior is not new; investigators uncovered a history of threatening conduct linked to him in the neighborhood, raising significant concerns about community safety. He was arrested on November 4, 2025, after law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence, aided by the South Metro SWAT Team.
Prosecutors emphasized the escalating nature of Rokosz’s violence in their arguments, describing him as a serious threat to public safety. The legal proceedings culminated in the recent sentencing, where the court put measures in place aimed at protecting the victim and the surrounding community.
Restitution details are still pending and will be assessed in collaboration with Dakota County Community Corrections. This case highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement and the judicial system face in handling domestic violence and public safety concerns. If Rokosz fails to comply with any probation terms, he risks facing the full prison sentence originally imposed.
