SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A recent propane tank explosion at a Sikh temple in the South Sacramento area has been captured on surveillance footage. The incident occurred in late January, causing damage to the property but fortunately resulting in no injuries. The temple, known as Gurdwara Sacramento Sikh Society, is located in the Vineyard community on Bradshaw Road.
Surveillance footage confirmed that multiple propane cylinders exploded on the day of the incident. The footage also revealed a heavy burst of flames emanating from the building, engulfing at least two vehicles in the process. Additionally, a burning propane tank was seen flying into the parking lot, as shown in the newly released footage.
The Metro Fire of Sacramento, responsible for investigating the incident, ruled out arson as the cause of the explosion. The origin of the fire was traced to the stored propane tanks, but the exact cause of the fire and subsequent explosion remains undetermined.
No one was injured in the explosion, and the temple itself was not impacted. However, the fire resulted in several propane tanks being propelled in excess of 50 feet. The fire also extended into the building’s attic space, leading to a partial collapse. Despite the damage to the property, the temple remained intact.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety protocols for storing propane tanks at religious and community centers. It also serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with mishandling propane and the importance of adhering to safety guidelines.
