SEATTLE — A 12-year-old boy is facing serious charges after allegedly brutally assaulting and robbing a woman in the Central District earlier this month. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has officially charged the boy in juvenile court with second-degree robbery and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
The arraignment is scheduled for Friday at the Clark Children & Family Justice Center, where he is currently held. In juvenile cases, bail is not an option; the boy’s release status will be determined based on court proceedings.
The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. on January 17, near the intersection of 23rd Avenue South and South Jackson Street. According to police reports, officers arrived at the scene to find a 43-year-old woman injured and in distress. Subsequent investigations revealed that the assault initiated inside an Amazon Fresh store, reportedly involving a young suspect wearing a striking pink ski mask.
Authorities allege the boy punched the victim multiple times in the face before using a screwdriver to stab her, hitting her left cheek. After stealing her handbag, he reportedly rummaged through her belongings in a nearby parking garage, only to return and assault the woman again. Following the second attack, the suspect fled the scene.
Law enforcement quickly identified the boy during their search efforts, recognizing him due to his age, distinctive attire, and prior encounters with police. When approached by officers, he attempted to escape on foot. Ultimately, police executed a search warrant at his home and arrested him without complications.
The screwdriver believed to have been used in the crime was recovered during the search, bolstering the evidence against him.
