AUSTIN, TEXAS – Police in Central Texas are launching a new investigation to connect an alleged serial killer to a cold case. Raul Meza Jr., who has been linked to almost a dozen murders, including two in San Antonio, is under scrutiny by Austin police for a cold-case homicide from 2018.
Austin Police Department (APD) detectives submitted a search warrant to gain access to Meza’s Google account, believing it could provide evidence related to the murders he is already tied to in Austin and any other unsolved cases. The police wrote in the affidavit that they had found a cold case homicide from 2018 that matches Meza’s modus operandi.
The 62-year-old Meza was arrested and charged in May 2023 after confessing to the murder of former Travis County probation officer Jesse Fraga, 80, and the killing of Gloria Lofton, 66. He also admitted to shooting two individuals in San Antonio between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019.
In July 2023, Austin and Pflugerville police, along with the FBI, investigated a Pflugerville field that potentially contains a burial site for some of Meza’s possible victims. Meza’s criminal history spans nearly 50 years, involving multiple convictions, including aggravated robbery and murder. He has been in and out of prison for various offenses since he was 15 years old.
Meza’s case underscores the challenges law enforcement face in monitoring and rehabilitating individuals with long criminal histories. As the investigation continues, authorities are working tirelessly to uncover the truth and make sure that justice is served.
In conclusion, Raul Meza Jr.’s alleged involvement in numerous cold case homicides in Austin and San Antonio is a cause for concern, prompting intensive efforts by law enforcement to gather evidence and bring closure to the families of the victims.
