ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A 26-year-old man from Shiprock will spend four years in federal prison following a violent assault that left his victim with severe injuries, including life-threatening complications. Tyrell Jordan Benally, a member of the Navajo Nation, was convicted for an attack that occurred on January 1, 2024, at a residence in Shiprock.
During the assault, Benally repeatedly struck the female victim with his fists and strangled her until she lost consciousness. The brutal nature of the attack resulted in serious physical harm, underlining the risks associated with domestic violence incidents in many communities.
