ATLANTA, GA – Authorities are seeking assistance from the public to identify a suspect who brazenly attacked a 79-year-old man outside a church in broad daylight. The incident, which was captured on surveillance video, has left the community on edge and eager for justice.
The attack occurred Saturday before 5:30 p.m. in front of the River of Life Christian Center. The victim, a church member, was engaged in routine cleaning duties when the assailant approached. The suspect demanded the man’s wallet, forcibly knocked him to the ground, and made off with his belongings, including cash and credit cards.
The violent encounter, which lasted less than ten seconds, left the elderly man with numerous cuts, bruises, and scratches. The force of the attack was so severe it knocked the victim’s glasses and shoes off. Residents of the neighborhood, who have been reviewing the surveillance footage, expressed deep concern over the incident.
The attack took place on a bustling stretch of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, near the Adamsville Library and a senior day center, underscoring the boldness of the perpetrator. A nearby ice cream shop owner recounted how the suspect walked past her customers before targeting the victim at the church entrance.
Surveillance cameras, strategically positioned around the church, captured clear images of the suspect’s face. Authorities are hopeful that the footage will lead to a swift identification and arrest. In the meantime, community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in the investigation.
Several witnesses, including a driver who stopped to inform police of the incident, have come forward, highlighting the community’s willingness to support law enforcement efforts. However, neither the victim nor church representatives are ready to speak publicly about the ordeal.
Police are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the suspect’s capture. Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers, with the potential for a reward of up to $2,000 for information that results in an arrest.
