Nairobi, Kenya – Kenyans are reeling from the shocking murder of Pastor Victor Kanyari’s sister, Starlet Wahu, at an AirBnB in Nairobi’s South B. The body of Wahu was found on the fourth floor of the rental property, with the suspected killer identified as John Matara. The discovery was made after a watchman reported seeing the male suspect flee with bloodstained clothes.
The owner of the AirBnB, who had let the property out to Wahu and Matara for a night, used a spare key to enter the house and found Wahu’s body sprawled on the floor. Makadara detectives arrived at the scene to find Wahu’s body drenched in a pool of blood, with evidence of a violent struggle.
An examination of the body revealed a stab wound on the head near the left ear, a deep cut on the right thigh, and a human bite on the left arm. Additionally, broken glasses and splattered blood throughout the room indicated a life-and-death struggle.
The suspect, John Matara, has now come under scrutiny as details about him emerge online. Matara, who claimed to be a graphic designer, has a history of assaulting and extorting money from his female victims. He was found in possession of HIV testing kits, a used condom, bhang, alcohol, and a blood-stained kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon.
Matara, along with his friend Anthony Nyongesa, was arrested at Mbagathi Hospital and is currently detained at the Industrial Area Police station. The motive for Wahu’s murder is under investigation, and police suspect that Matara may be a serial killer and extortionist. He has been allowed to be held for 21 days pending further probe, during which time three victims have come forward with statements to the police.
