Manukau, New Zealand — A violent incident on Lissleton Drive has left a couple seriously injured and led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man. The man is scheduled to appear in the Manukau District Court today, facing charges of wounding. According to police, all individuals involved were acquainted with one another.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 8:10 p.m. following reports of an assault. Two individuals were transported to Middlemore Hospital with serious injuries, while a third was taken into custody. Thankfully, the victims are reportedly in stable condition.
Neighbors expressed shock at the incident, noting that the couple had never caused any trouble in the community. One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, described them as cheerful and kind-hearted individuals who seemingly wouldn’t harm anyone. “It’s bewildering to see this kind of scene,” the neighbor said, referring to the flurry of police activity outside their home.
Photos from the scene depicted a chaotic environment, including broken glass and blood-soaked walls. A scene guard remained outside the residence overnight as investigators worked to piece together what happened. Furniture was scattered across the home, highlighting the violence of the incident.
Louise Nash, another neighbor, recounted her experience upon hearing the commotion. She was startled by the sound of police dogs barking and opened her door to find multiple police cars and two elderly residents being assisted into an ambulance. “They looked pale and were wearing their pajamas,” she noted. “It was distressing to see them like that.”
Nash, who described the couple as reserved and private, mentioned that they often hosted international high school students in their home. Authorities are currently seeking temporary accommodations for two teenage students who were living with the couple, although it remains unclear if they were present during the attack.
While Nash emphasized that the neighborhood had always felt safe, the recent events have heightened her sense of caution. “It could’ve happened to anyone around here,” she remarked.
In a heartwarming turn, the couple was spotted returning home from the hospital early this morning, relieved but shaken. An injured woman at the residence declined to comment when approached for further details. Shortly after, a friend visited, bringing flowers to offer support in the wake of the ordeal.
