Columbia, South Carolina – A tragic incident unfolded at the Carrington Place apartment complex on Sunday, where a man lost his life in a fatal shooting. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department reported that deputies were dispatched to the scene around 12:30 p.m. following reports of gunshots in the area. The shooting took place in the 700 block of Mallet Hill Road, near Exit 80 on Interstate 20 in the Columbia area.
According to an incident report from the sheriff’s department, a resident at the complex alerted law enforcement after hearing multiple gunshots near one of the buildings. When deputies arrived, they discovered the victim, a 35-year-old man, laying unconscious in a breezeway outside one of the apartment buildings. Despite the efforts of the complex’s courtesy officer to administer aid, the victim succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.
