NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A tragic incident unfolded in an alley between Hayes and Church streets early Saturday morning, leaving one person dead and another injured, according to Metro Nashville Police.
Homicide detectives are actively pursuing leads in the fatal shooting of Christopher Cheeks, 32, around 2:30 a.m. Reports indicate that a 29-year-old man was also injured in the altercation. Authorities suspect that Cheeks and his acquaintances were approached by three individuals before the situation escalated.
The 29-year-old victim recounted that the encounter initially seemed cordial until the trio of suspects attempted to rob the group, leading to gunfire. Amidst the chaos, he realized he had been wounded. Following the altercation, the victims scattered in different directions, with the injured man being discovered on Church Street and promptly transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for medical attention. Tragically, Cheeks was found at the Hayes Street Hotel’s parking garage and succumbed to his injuries at Vanderbilt.
