Washington, D.C., USA – The family of Kristian Stewart, who was tragically shot and killed on Galveston Street SW over a year ago, is seeking justice as they protest the handling of his case. Kristian’s mother, Tequanitha Stewart, traveled from North Carolina to D.C. to raise concerns about the investigation at the Metro Police’s First District Headquarters.
According to Tequanitha Stewart, Kristian, 21, was in D.C. for his grandmother’s funeral when the incident occurred outside the Gardens Apartments in Southwest. They believe he was trying to break up a fight when he was attacked and fatally shot by unknown individuals.
The heart-wrenching moments leading up to Kristian’s death were captured on a cell phone and shared on social media platform Reddit. However, despite having footage of the incident, no arrests have been made in the case. Tequanitha Stewart expressed her frustration with the lack of progress in the investigation, emphasizing that the identities of the perpetrators are known but no action has been taken yet.
Tequanitha Stewart, who had relocated her family to North Carolina in 2013 to escape the violence in D.C., filed a $30 million lawsuit against The Gardens Apartments in February. She claimed that the security cameras, which could have potentially captured the shooting, were not functioning at the time.
Despite living in North Carolina, Tequanitha Stewart remains determined to seek justice for her son and plans to continue protesting in D.C. She is unwavering in her mission to ensure that Kristian’s life is not forgotten and that his death is not in vain.
Metro Police confirmed that the investigation into Kristian’s murder is ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward. In an effort to incentivize cooperation, a $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
As Tequanitha Stewart continues to fight for her son’s legacy, the community remains hopeful for answers and justice for Kristian Stewart, whose life was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence.
