PONTIAC, Mich. – Two suspects are in custody after they allegedly shot and killed a man during an argument over spitting in a sink, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victim, Cornelius James Jones, 33, was shot multiple times in an apartment building in Pontiac on Wednesday. Deputies responded to a report of shots fired and found Jones lying unconscious on the floor. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
According to witnesses, the dispute escalated when one of the suspects became agitated and demanded the other man leave the apartment after spitting in the sink. Jones confronted the man, deeming the act disrespectful, before being shot.
After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene but were apprehended by authorities. One was caught immediately, while the other was arrested after a lengthy foot chase during which he discarded the gun used in the shooting.
In response to the tragic incident, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard denounced the senseless violence, stating, “It is unfathomable that a human life would be taken for something so absurdly trivial as a person spitting in a sink.”
The suspects are currently being held in the Oakland County Jail and are expected to face charges in court imminently. The sheriff commended the deputies for their swift and decisive action in catching the armed murderer, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the need for accountability.
